Yes, plenty of light sources!
The earliest I recall purposely getting alone with God was about third grade. I loved to sit in the tree swing and sing church hymns, which about all the songs I knew the words to. I had an awareness of my smallness in the world and at the same time my importance. The last word of a hymn was my clue to the next one I would sing.
When We All Get to Heaven was followed by
Heaven Came Down which was followed by
Down in My Heart. When I ran out of links I would start with the alphabet singing a phrase or line beginning which each letter until I got stuck.
Since then I have made it a point to walk alone in the woods for a time of personal worship. I have always found solitude more appealing than being in a crowd seeking God. On several occasions over the years I have gone solo backpacking or camping. This year I found a weekend to go to a campground where I had a much-needed time of Bible reading, journaling, meditation and sorting out the mess that gets in my head between trips. My agenda was simple. To be alone with God and to listen. Mission accomplished.
